Why India
Today, India is a key player in the world stage. Economic liberalisation is transforming India into an increasingly prosperous nation. The world views India with unbridled optimism. However, in spite of progress made by India on many fronts, growth in sports has not kept pace. Even though India has the world's fastest growing population the number of champions produced by India is few and far between, with some exceptions of course
Underperformance in sport is perhaps most evident in football, the world's most popular sport. India (estimated population 1.1 billion) was ranked 148 in the October 2008 world rankings published by FIFA, the sport's governing body. Even tiny Vanuatu (population 218,000), the South Pacific island country was ranked higher (147th)!
So how can we help transform the landscape? Our mission is to create opportunities for international sports entities (e.g. sports clubs and sports associations) to engage with Indian corporations and consumers by providing a platform for cross border engagement. We believe this will provide two distinct advantages. It will bring best practices from the international sporting world into India which will raise sporting aspirations and standards in India. For the international sports entities, it will open the doors to the purchasing power and talent in the Indian economy and present an array of commerce opportunities.
